MBA in Retailing by distance learning

HOW IT WORKS

The MBA in Retailing is a modular programme that allows you to study at your own pace. It covers both general management as well as retail specific subjects. It has been developed in close co-operation with the retail sector and is delivered through a combination of face to face teaching and distance learning materials.

Study Materials:

  • module study guides and texts written specifically for the MBA
  • readings (articles of cases)
  • audio/ visual support material
  • text books

Study Schools:

Study Schools are learning events held over weekends. A Study School is held every four months at a hotel in Singapore.

Learning activities may include lectures, case studies, group work, and in-depth discussions.

The objectives of the Study School are to:

  • review the work of the previous study period
  • introduce new modules of study
  • allow students to take part in case studies, seminars and guest lectures
  • increase the opportunity for discussion and teamwork

Study Schools are conducted by academic staff of University of Stirling.

Tutorials:

Tutorials are held every six or seven weeks between Study Schools, also on weekends. Tutorials are conducted by local tutors appointed by the University. The local tutors are academics who are specialists in the specific subject or retail practitioners with over 20 years of experience.

The objectives of the tutorial are to:

  • support the materials being taught for the specific module in the preceding Study School
  • to provide a local (Singapore and Asia) perspective to the subject taught
  • allow students to meet and to discuss any problems in their studies
  • allow students to seek guidance on their studies and assignments

Study Support:

  • study techniques for distance learning are discussed in the first Study School to build confidence of participants particularly those who have not studied for a number of years
  • access to the University of Stirling online library
  • access to professors and tutors online

Assessments:

For each taught module, participants will be given assessments in the following formats:

  • written examinations (at the end of the Study Period, before the start of the next Study School) and/ or
  • written assignments
