  PROFESSOR PAUL FREATHY
PhD (Manchester), MA (Warwick)

Paul is Professor of Retail Management and Director of the Institute for Retail Studies at the University of Stirling. Professor Freathy has significant international experience and has worked in Europe, North America, the West Indies, Africa and Asia. He has been a member of the UK Government’s Retail Strategy Task Force and has undertaken applied research for a number of private sector and not-for-profit organisations. He is a regular speaker at international conferences and has presented to audiences across Europe, Asia and the United States. Paul is also a frequent contributor to the business press, radio and television. His latest book is entitled The Retailing Book and was published in July 2003 by the Financial Times/Prentice Hall.
     
     
  PROFESSOR LARRY RING
PhD (Industrial Administration, Purdue University), MS (Management, Purdue University), BSIM (Purdue University)

Larry is Chancellor Professor of Business Administration and the Executive MBA Alumni Distinguished Professor, Mason School of Business, The College of William and Mary, Williamsburg Virginia. His research and teaching center on marketing management, marketing and retail strategy. He has received the MBA Programme Outstanding Teaching Awards seven times. He also consults to retail companies around the world and teaches in executive development programmes in numerous countries. Professor Ring is a member of the Board of Directors of major retail companies in America, Australia and South America.

     
     
  PROFESSOR JOHN STRONG
PhD (Finance, Harvard University),  MPP (Finance, Public Policy; Harvard University), BA (Highest Honors, Washington and Lee University)

John is CSX Professor of Finance and Economics in the Mason School of Business, The College of William and Mary, Williamsburg Virginia. He is an eight-time winner of the MBA Outstanding Professor Award at William and Mary and received the Thomas Jefferson teaching Award at the College’s Tercentenary Celebration in 1993.  He holds a masters and PhD from Harvard and has been a visiting professor at the Harvard Business School.  His expertise and interest are focused on financial analysis of retailing. Professor Strong is also a consultant to retailers, banks, investments firms and transportation companies.

     
     
  ANDREW CAVANAGH
B Economics (Monash), BTh (Honours)

Andrew was a Programme Director of the Australian Centre for Retail Studies for 8 years with particular expertise in the areas of buying and finance since 2003. Andrew has a wealth of hands-on experience as a trainer/facilitator and as a buyer.  He has over 20 years working for Coles Myers Ltd, one of Australia’s leading retailers.  Andrew’s buying and merchandising experience has been particularly in the areas of women’s apparel and furniture. He also has been involved in the development of IT systems to support the buying process and spent a number of years in organisation development and training. Andrew has been conducting the merchandising and profitability programmes in Singapore since 2004.
     
     
  JOSE MARIA BUSTOS

Jose has worked within the visual merchandising industry for over thirty years having worked for companies like I Magnin & Co, Saks Fifth Avenue, Marshall Field’s & Co, Dayton’s & Hudson’s department stores and CK Tang Ltd. He has written articles for Retail Asia Publishing and presently writes for Retail Biz, published by the Times of India. He is presently Creative Director of VMA Pte Ltd, a visual merchandising consultancy based in Singapore.

Paul is the former CEO of the Retail Academy of Singapore and is currently a member of its Academic Board. He had served the Academy for 7 years; prior to this, he had been with SPRING Singapore for 25 years. While he has a broad exposure to productivity management, he has specialised in workforce development and continuing education and training. He has worked on national, industry and company projects that included research, programme development, consulting, instructional design, training and assessment. Paul was a resource person for the Retail 21 Plan and had served two terms as a member of the Retail Industry Skills and Training Council of the Singapore Workforce Development Agency. He has over 30 years of experience working with all levels in organizations, participating in as well as leading teams.

     
     
  WONG KAI HONG
MBA in Strategic Marketing (Hull), BSc (NUS)

Kai Hong is a business consultant, management trainer and company director. He has spent almost two decades in the consumer products industry, having worked with retailers like Isetan, Metro, Royal Sporting House, The Athlete’s Foot and Sunglass Hut; brands like Reebok and Doc Martens; and, technology group Wearnes Technology. He has been involved with various functions including operations, business development, project management, human resource, training, marketing, logistics, budgeting and general management. He has developed businesses in Singapore and many Asia cities such as Seoul and Beijing.

     
     
  DAVID LIEM

David Liem is the senior consultant for web marketing of Happy Marketer. His expertise lies in social media marketing, Web 2.0 design & marketing, and corporate training. He is certified by Google as a Qualified Advertising Professional, and an Analytics Consultant. For over 5 years, David has trained for all types of audiences, from children to teens, to leaders in the education and corporate world. David's experiences have allowed him to lead and manage programmes and workshops involving business training such as social media marketing, copywriting, website design, search engine optimisation, search engine advertising, web analytics, desktop publishing, as well as soft skills training like accelerated learning, leadership development, and presentation skills.

     
     
  MICHAEL TONKIN

Michael is the Managing Director of Performance Partners Consulting, a specialist retail training and consultancy based in Australia and Singapore. Michael started his company in 1995 after having worked previously with Coles Myer in various strategic retail operations roles. Today, Michael and his team train and consult across all retail segments with global, multi-national and national retail clients. Michael's core expertise is retail strategy and operations, change management and human capital. In his work, Michael continues to stay hands-on across multiple projects, from CEO and executive strategy through to implementation at shopfloor and head office level. He also sits on the board of a leading retailer and is a highly sought after speaker in Australia and overseas.

     
     
 

AMY MEADOWS
BS (Northwestern University)

Amy is a nationally recognised author, speaker, designer and instructor in the field of Visual Merchandising and Retail Design. After 25 years as the head of Window Display, Holiday and Marketing Events for Marshall Field's/Macy's, she now runs Windows Matter, a retail design consulting firm. Her clients include Phoenix's new Musical Instrument Museum, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago Loop Alliance's Pop Up Art Loop and Target. She has made frequent local and national media appearances on HGTV, PBS, NBC, WGN, ABC, CBS, NPR and CNN as well as being featured in the Chicago Reader, Chicago Tribune, Sun-Times and Newsweek.

In addition, she serves on the faculty of Columbia College Chicago, creating the Visual Merchandising and Window Display coursework in the Fashion Studies Dept. Her engaging, no-nonsense approach for solving branding and marketing challenges by means of innovative presentation and experiential strategies makes her a sought-after consultant for arts organizations, fashion education programs and historic business districts. Amy is active participant on the Executive Boards for Ox-Bow and Cathedral Shelter Chicago.

     
     
  CAROLINE LEE

As the Chief Operating Officer of the Melium Group in Malaysia and thereafter the General Manager of the Valiram Group, Singapore, Caroline has spent the last 5 years in the business development, management and operation of luxury brands. Her hands-on involvement in developing human capital and service skills as well as designing and delivering innovative store experiences has been key in driving sales and maintaining customer loyalty. She has spearheaded and designed targeted training and assessment programmes in retail operations, store management, selling skills and customer service for luxury retailing.
 
Caroline is qualified as a barrister in 1990 and practised both in Singapore and Malaysia for over a decade before turning her hand to retail in 2006.  During her years in the legal industry, she was actively involved in marketing and client services, handling local and international business opportunities. She also created and hosted a wide variety of business and staff development activities and corporate events both within the organisation and for external participation.
